Hublot loves football…
Getting a share of the luxury watch market can’t be easy for a new brand. Competing against well-established rivals, some established since the 19th century, requires more than just a high quality product. For Hublot, founded in 1980, immersing itself in the football world is proving increasingly an illustrious partnership.
In 2006, they became the first fine watchmaking company to join with the ‘beautiful game’. They became sponsors of the Swiss national team that year and an official partner of Euro 2008, which Switzerland co-hosted with Austria. Hublot also had links with the Spanish and Mexican national teams, as well as Manchester United and legendary player, Diego Maradona.
This period included three Premier League titles in a row and a Champions League win for the English giants. The collaboration also produced the Red Devils Big Bang watch. The Spanish national team had unprecedented success with back-to-back Euro titles and their only World Cup crown. This ensured the Hublot brand and logo became prominent among football fans around the world.

Ricardo Guadalupe, Hublot CEO, stated: “Beneath its apparent simplicity, soccer (or football) conceals a perfect technical mastery, a constant desire to push your limits and possess tenacity, all common values of Hublot. The popular sport is accessible to everyone, a universal language which can be developed from a young age across borders.”
The Swiss brand’s relationship with football has only strengthened since then.
FIFA is the governing body of world soccer, with a worldwide membership of 211 national associations. It’s responsible for organising both the FIFA World Cup and the FIFA Women’s World Cup. These are the biggest single-sport events in sport, watched by billions of passionate fans.
Hublot is the Official Timekeeper for these prestigious global tournaments. Their debut at the tournament was in the 2010 World Cup, held in South Africa. The brand was visible on the referee's boards used to show substitutions and stoppage time.
Plus, as the World Cup’s ‘Official Watch’, Hublot created an exclusive limited edition series for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. Other special collections of watches linked to the tournament have followed.
These included the Hublot Big Bang Referee Smartwatch, created for match officials at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Smart technology is not normally associated with traditional Swiss timepieces, but this type of innovation reflects the brand’s values. The operating system gave referees access to a number of precise game data while also providing fans with relevant information, such as live match updates.
The clever design and engineering allowed Hublot to incorporate modern technology, bringing haute horlogerie to a new generation of enthusiasts more in tune with high-tech and apps than grand complications.
Hublot is also the Official Watch of the major UEFA competitions for both men and women, including the Euros, UEFA Champions League and Europa League. The partnership began with the 2012 Euro co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine, won by Spain.

Three years later, the Swiss watchmaker became the official licensed watch for UEFA’s club competitions, when they unveiled a new referee board. The Champions League is considered the best club competition in world football, again seen by an audience of billions.
This partnership has produced the limited edition Hublot Big Bang e connected watch, with features that enrich the Champions League fan experience. For example, various dials are downloadable from the Hublot Store. There are blue digital and analogue options, and a special color-dial that can be customised to match one of the participating team’s kit colours.
Its Hublot Loves Football UEFA Champions League' app notifies the user of goals, penalty, substitutions, yellow and red cards and time added on. They even get team line-ups and VAR decisions! The app will be also available to existing owners of the Hublot Big Bang e.
Clubs, Superstars and Leagues
Clearly, associating itself with football benefits the Hublot brand. The ‘people’s game’ is the number one sport for billions of people and the Swiss watchmakers seem intent on making the most of their burgeoning reputation within football.
This year, they became the Official Timekeeper for the English Premier League. As one of the most watched leagues in the world, the brand is further cementing itself in the psyche of billions of people.
Brand ambassadors and wearers include two of the game’s greatest ever players, Pele and Diego Maradona. Kylian Mbappe, one of football’s young stars and a World Cup winner is another fan. He quoted:
“Hublot embodies this fusion of innovation, new technologies and materials, which greatly appeals to me. They unconditionally support my sport and are associated with my finest moments in football, so I am proud to become the first active footballer to act as an ambassador for the brand!”
The Swiss brand is also building on its association with football clubs. They’re currently the Official Timekeeper and Official Watch of Juventus, Chelsea, AFC Ajax and Benfica. Special edition watches have been created for all these clubs, including the Big Bang Unico Bi-Retrograde Juventus and the Big Bang Chelsea FC.
With new football fans born every day, the partnerships between Hublot and football ensures the brand has an ever-growing, captive audience for its luxury watches. The newcomers to Swiss luxury watchmaking seem resolved to build a history and legacy as long as some of their renowned competitors.
